MacroSphere Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 07/24/2026 This Privacy Policy explains how Owen Chambers, an individual sole proprietor doing business as MacroSphere ("MacroSphere," "we," "us"), handles information in the MacroSphere mobile app for iOS and Android (the "Service"). MacroSphere is a US-based service for adults 18 and older.

The short version: MacroSphere is built local-first. Most of your data—including your weight history, nutrition logs, workouts, date of birth, photos, messages, and privacy settings—stays on your device and is not uploaded to our servers today. Our cloud backend stores your account credentials, a small profile, your calorie and macronutrient targets, and a record of the policies you agreed to. We run no analytics or advertising SDKs, we do not sell your data, and we will never sell health data or use it for targeted advertising.

1. Who Operates the Service

The Service is operated by Owen Chambers, sole proprietor, doing business as MacroSphere. For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@macrosphere.app. For general support, contact support@macrosphere.app.

2. Information We Collect

Stored in our cloud backend

  • Account credentials: email address and password. Passwords are hashed and managed by our authentication provider (Supabase Auth); we never store or see plaintext passwords.
  • Profile: username, display name, and optionally height, the sex-based calorie-formula input, and activity level.
  • Nutrition targets: your daily calorie and macronutrient goals computed during setup—not your food logs.
  • Consent and eligibility records: which versions of our terms and policies you accepted, when, and the timestamp of your 18-or-older confirmation.

Stored only on your device (not uploaded today)

  • Weight goal, personal goals, and pace preference
  • Date of birth, used locally for age support and calorie calculation
  • Height, weight, and weight history
  • Nutrition and food logs, water intake, and meal photos
  • Workout plans, workout history, and personal records
  • Friends lists, groups, messages, and reactions
  • Privacy settings and app preferences

A planned sync feature may in the future upload additional data to enable backup, cross-device use, and real social features. If that happens, we will update this policy and related disclosures before the change takes effect.

Food search queries

When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the search text or barcode number is sent to the food databases listed in Section 4 so results can be returned. These requests are not accompanied by your name, email, or account identifier.

Data we do not collect

We do not collect precise location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or analytics events. No analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or crash-reporting service is active in the app. Camera access is used only to scan food barcodes; images from the camera are processed on-device and are not stored or uploaded. Photos you attach to meals or your profile stay on your device.

3. How We Use Information

  • Provide account sign-in, your profile, and your targets
  • Perform on-device calorie and macronutrient estimates, weight-pace suggestions, and progress streaks
  • Show local reminders and nudges you configure
  • Keep a record of the policy versions you accepted
  • Respond to support requests
  • Maintain security and prevent abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell personal data or health data.

4. How Information Is Shared

Service providers

  • Supabase: email, hashed password, profile, nutrition targets, and consent records for authentication, database, and account-related emails. Hosted in the United States (AWS us-west-2, Oregon).
  • USDA FoodData Central: food search text and scanned barcode numbers for food database search.
  • Open Food Facts: food search text and scanned barcode numbers for search and barcode lookup.
  • Apple and Google: standard app-store and operating-system data for app distribution and notification services.
  • Expo (EAS): build and release tooling; no runtime user data.

We do not share data with data brokers, advertisers, or analytics companies.

Sharing you choose

When cross-user social features launch, sharing will be governed by your privacy settings. MacroSphere offers six audience levels: Everyone, Friends, Close Friends, Only Selected People, Everyone Except Selected People, and No One. Blocking a user overrides all other settings. Today, cross-user social features are not live: friends, groups, and messages do not leave your device, and demo mode shows only fictional people.

Sharing progress with a group requires separate, per-group consent. Joining a group does not automatically share your data with it.

We may disclose information if required by valid legal process, to protect the safety of users or the public, or in connection with a merger or acquisition, with notice to you.

5. Notifications

Meal, weigh-in, workout, and nudge reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. We do not send marketing push notifications, and notification text never includes your exact weight or calorie values. Our authentication provider may send account-related emails.

6. Data Retention

  • Device-local data: remains on your device until you delete it, delete your account, or remove the app.
  • Cloud data: retained until you delete your account, then permanently deleted via cascading delete.
  • Backend backups: deleted data may persist in encrypted standard backups for up to 7 days before the backups age out. Backups are not used to restore deleted accounts.
  • Support correspondence: retained for up to 12 months after the request is resolved, then deleted unless longer retention is legally required.

7. Security

Data in transit is encrypted using TLS; device-local data uses encrypted storage provided by the operating system; server-side data is protected by row-level security policies; and passwords are hashed by our authentication provider. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Report security or safety issues to safety@macrosphere.app.

8. Your Choices and Rights

  • Access and export: export your data as a JSON file in the app under Settings → Legal & Data → Export My Data.
  • Correction: edit your profile and logs directly in the app.
  • Deletion: delete your account in the app under Settings → Account. This permanently deletes cloud data and wipes device data. See our Account Deletion page.

Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to appeal a decision on a rights request. Contact privacy@macrosphere.app to exercise applicable rights. We do not discriminate against users for exercising privacy rights.

Some data MacroSphere handles, such as weight, nutrition, and workout information, may be considered consumer health data under applicable state laws. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy in the app describes how we handle that data and your rights over it.

9. International Users

MacroSphere is a US-based service intended for users in the United States. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your account data will be processed in the United States.

10. Children

The Service is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete associated server-side data.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. For material changes—including any future sync feature that uploads additional data—we will notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect and, where required, ask for your consent.
